How it is made
Herbal teas (tisanes) are made by steeping or simmering herbs, spices or other plant material in water. They contain no tea leaves, so they are not true tea: they do not come from the tea plant (Camellia sinensis). Examples are chamomile and peppermint.
Taste
Taste depends on the plant. The sources give no general description.
How to brew
Hot or boiling water is poured over the plant parts and left to steep. Temperature and time vary with the plant part, so follow the packaging. Cold-water brewing takes several hours.
